COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course
will be taught with the goal of improving the English
Speaking/Listening and Reading/Writing skills of the
students as they learn the basic principles of cross-cultural
church planting, including the initial evangelistic
penetration of a people group, a clear definition
of the Gospel, nurture and discipleship of new believers,
and the development of leaders. COURSE
OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of the course the student should
be able to (in English):
- Articulate clearly an understanding of the Great
Commission passages of Scripture and how they relate
to the Church.
- Identify the characteristics and profile of the
domestic and cross-cultural church planter, and evaluate
themselves in relation to those characteristics.
- Express a deeper level of commitment to the importance
and role of the church and church planting in God's
program for the world.
- Evaluate their values and vision for the church
and how they correlate to cross-cultural work.
- Identify and explain the stages in the Pauline Cycle.
- Evaluate where their church and/or denomination
is in relation to the principles of the Pauline Cycle.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Attendance & Participation-Class sessions include
discussions and other opportunities for participation
in the English language. Your attendance and active
participation is expected.
- Exams-Mid-Term & Final
- Reading/Writing-fulfillment of all assignments is
expected.
- Project-your completion of a written final project
and oral presentation is expected. PROJECT:
Choose one of the following and be prepared to orally
present it in class.
- Interview: Conduct a personal interview with a church
planter who is either working in South Korea or overseas.
Explain his/her situation and use the following as
a guide to your interview:
1. Where do you serve? Which organization?
2. How did God lead you to this people group/area?
3. What research was done?
4. What were the initial steps in your church plant?
5. What evangelistic methods have you used?
6. What is your method of discipleship of new believers?
7. How do you select and train leaders?
8. What cultural issues have had a significant impact?
9. What are important characteristics/qualifications
of a church planter?
10. Do you plan to turn over the work? How? When?
( Plus two or more questions of your choice) Write
a two page report on your interview. The report should
include a summary of the answers to each question
as well as one or two paragraphs of reflection. Example:
What did you learn from the interview? How was your
thinking expanded? What might be your place on a church-plant
team? **** Be prepared to orally present
your Interview in class! -
Write a two-three page Review from one of the following
Articles in Perspectives: On the World Christian Movement
(3rd Edition), or from another article with approval
by Instructors.
Explain why you chose the article, what you learned,
and demonstrate a personal interaction with what you
learned.
